FAB CENTER FOR ACADEMIC RESOURCES FOR EMPOWERMENT & SUCCESS (C.A.R.E.S.)

The programs implemented at the FAB C.A.R.E.S. facility combine affordable housing and supportive services. They are strategically designed to provide program participants with general soft skills and applicable, in-demand job training skills that would be instrumental in the workplace and in everyday life. The skills gained from this program will essentially prepare residents to be productive learners and earners in the workplace.

This initiative will also provide residents with the knowledge to perform well on the job while attending additional education and skill training programs. In addition to gaining on-the-job training, residents must participate in workshops designed to assist them with creating their own success plan.

Some of the topics that will be discussed include self-discovery, managing time effectively, understanding workplace skills for today's employee, learning how to use effective communication, gaining skills and knowledge for contacting employers, getting hired (including learning about workplace issues, paperwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking), money management, credit counseling, nutrition, landscaping, and construction, among other important topics. Residents will learn that the process associated with becoming gainfully employed and eventually, one day, becoming an entrepreneur is a lifelong journey.

The FAB C.A.R.E.S. Center provides a much-needed place where resources and training are attainable to all of those who need them in the community.

C.A.R.E.S. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

PHASE 1: PROTECT AND PREPARE

These services are designed to address the issues that individuals and families face that contributed to them becoming homeless. Services provided in this phase will include education, mental health and substance abuse treatment, and a full diagnostic and risk assessment. This phase of the program can last anywhere from 1 to 12 months.

PHASE 2

Programs will work with individuals and families immediately following their approval to participate in the transitional program. This phase of the process can last anywhere from 18 to 24 months. Services provided in this phase will include, as appropriate, education, monitoring, mentoring, life skills training, assessment, job skills development, and mental health and substance abuse treatment.

PHASE 3: SUSTAIN AND SUPPORT

These programs will connect individuals who have graduated from our program with a network of social services agencies and community-based organizations to provide ongoing services and mentoring relationships. This phase of the program is ongoing in order to ensure that all graduating participants maintain a true level of self-sufficiency.
